Robert Benson, Benson Fine Arts, paints landscapes, figurative work and still life in watercolor and acrylics. Benson's extensive career as an Art Director, Graphic Designer and Illustrator led to his painting career that now spans over 35 years. His work is collected by art aficionados throughout the U.S. and beyond. His work is characterized by strong light and shadow contrasts, evocative subjects, and powerful color palette use. My aim is to produce paintings of familiar subjects with universal appeal and a fresh perspective. I create appealing, accessible paintings to enhance your home or business space. My goal as a painter is to stay loose and let your eye fill in where there is little detail and to evoke an emotional response as you interact with the spirit of my work.
As a lifelong artist, I worked 25 years as a Commercial Artist and Art Director in Advertising prior to moving to Sonoma County in 2001. For the past 20 years I have dedicated my painting to exploring exquisite Northern California landscapes, still life, people, and pet portrait work. I delight in painting commissioned Pet Portraits which bring smiles to my clients’ faces when they receive the painting of their beloved animal companion. I love teaching watercolor painting! It brings me immense satisfaction to guide others in their exploration of painting, both in groups, or private lessons. My work is frequently shown in Art Galleries, Northern California Wineries and at Art Show Events. I hope you will visit me at one of my exhibits. I now lease a sales space at Fulton Crossing Gallery, 1200 River Rd. in Fulton CA, open Friday - Sunday, 11- 4 PM. I live nearby and can meet you there, and you may contact me for private viewing of my paintings at my home studio in Santa Rosa. I'm also in group shows at the Gallery One in Petaluma CA.
